by Rody:

Hello my name is Rochelle, I'm a 43 year old divorced single mother with one son and raising my nephew, who is the same as a son to me. I'm a very independent person that tries to keep and hold my head up high and trust in God. In life don't ever let anyone tell you that dreams don't come true, because they do! You see like so many of us, I have fought the obesity fight for my whole life. First of all, I have to thank the great GOD above for my journey this far. My life has changed from a person who was going to end up in a bed, wheelchair or early death.

I was in and out of the hospital with Congestive Heart Failure 16 times in the year of 2003 with my highest weight of 617 pounds. It was very hard for me to get out of bed in the morning. I was sitting around waiting to die. My one thought was I will never get to watch my son grow up. But now by the Grace of God I will get to see him grown, out of school and with a family of his own.

My PCP tried for 3 years to help me get the surgery, but due to insurance I didn't get it and didn't have the cash money to pay. Jesus stepped in, but all in due time and through prayer He blessed me with the surgery and brought a wonderful surgeon named Dr. Albert T. Spaw into my life.

I thank God and Ms. Mary Haynes RN., for leading me to Dr. Al Spaw. When I first saw Dr. Spaw on December 2, 2004 I weighed 557 pounds. Dr. Spaw was down to earth, but is serious when it comes to taking care of his patients. He was very up front about the risks and told me that the Duodenal Switch would be the best surgery for me!! But first I had to get a clearance from the lung and heart doctors before he would do the surgery. I got clearance and I received a call in January for the day of my surgery February 3, 2005. On the day of my surgery, I weighed in at 538 pounds. On 2-3-05 I had first part of the DS and am hoping to have the second part in January 2006?

I went for my 6 months visited August 25, 2005 and weighed 457 pounds.

I am so glad to thank God for leading me down this path, and to Dr. Spaw and his staff for their caring and skill. I would like to thank the apple of my eye and that's my Daddy, I want to say thank you daddy for not only standing by me through this but just being there I LOVE YOU!!

I want to say I love all the ones that were there for me and a very Big Big Thank You to my Family and Neighbor.

I AM A NEW WOMAN. I am so happy God is GOOOOD! Dr. Spaw is a God send!!!!! Until next time, may God bless YOU REAL GOOD! Don't Give Up...

UPDATE

January 30, 2006 I had the second part of the DS surgery at Baptist Hospital and doing Great, Lost 54 lbs in 6 weeks.

Weight now 384.5 as of March 30,2006.
