by Mellissa:

I was the chubby child who was picked last for the recess games. I was the overweight teenager who didn’t date in high school or go to my proms. I was the obese college student who wasn’t invited to the parties. I was the morbidly obese professional woman who struggled to prove myself in the workplace. My entire life, I have been overweight. I always kept a smile on my face and seemed happy as can be, trying not to let the world around me see me dying inside.

I was very successful at the other things that I did. So why couldn’t I lose weight? I tried and tried to lose weight for almost 20 years. I was at the end of my rope, weighing in a 298 pounds at 28 years old.

Well, then a miracle happened. I met Dr. Robert A. Rabkin. He changed my life forever on January 14, 1998 in San Francisco. I had the Duodenal Switch surgery that day, and it has been a wonderful, scary transition for me ever since. I have lost 120 pounds to date. My life has completely changed, and I have been reborn!

I have been bungee jumping, white water rafting, hiking, camping, and doing all of the wonderful things that life has to offer. People say that I glow with happiness, and I’m sure that I do, because I have never been happier in my life.

Please feel free to email me with any questions you might have. Even better, if you would like to chat on the telephone, let me know. My email address is SFMellissa@aol.com.
