As I read everyone's stories, I find similarities in many of us. So, here is my story. I was a chubby toddler and child. And as I got older, the fatter I became. I was very active as a child. I had a pool and swam daily, rode my bike, etc. But still was overweight.

I can remember as a 4th grader needing to start wearing a bra.... Back in 1964, that was unusual. As a teenager, I had my first experience with Weight Watchers. My neighbor convinced my parents to let me go with her. I did, and actually lost 50lbs and weighed 135lbs. I was sixteen years old. But at Weight Watchers, I was still considered overweight; they wanted me to lose 20lbs more before they would teach me "maintenance". Needless to say I not only gained back that 50lbs over about 2 years, but also put on another 50.

I have tried WW and other diet plans over and over again. I also have tried Redux (only time I felt I had the same appetite as a normal person), until it was taken off the market. I have also tried Meridia and Xenical. While I initially lose weight, I eventually gain back what I have lost and more.

I have been married and divorced. And my husband used my weight as an excuse to be unfaithful when I was married. I have three teenage children. I am now in a wonderful relationship with a man who loves me for me, but wants me to live another 30-40 yrs with him. He is concerned for my health. I am insulin dependent diabetic and have hypertension. I haven't been in a sleep study, but my fiancé says I snore and have sleep apnea. That sometimes he wakes and I am not breathing and he stirs me to get me breathing.

Anyways, my sister was “switched” almost 2 years ago and is doing wonderful. So, I began my research and have made the decision to have surgery. My PCP and psychiatrist have recommended I have the surgery. I have submitted all my information to Dr. Smith in Marietta Georgia. I feel so blessed that I have a surgeon here in the area that I live who can perform the surgery. Dr. Smith is creating my LOMN to submit to my insurance. I have Phoenix Life Insurance, which is managed by PHCS. I haven't seen any posts of anyone with this insurance. I am hoping for a quick approval. The only way for me to have the surgery is if the insurance pays, I can't afford to pay this myself. This has become very important to me.
