by Leslie:

Chuck and Leslie (June '02)I had my lap bpd/ds with Dr. Dennis Smith Jr. in Marietta, GA 3/22/01. As of today, 9/26/01, I have lost 89 pounds. I weigh 235 pounds.

My BMI has went from 51 to 37 in 6 months. I feel so much better!! I am able to do so many things now and my outlook on life is full of HOPE! I do exercise, but not excessively. I do not diet, but am considering curbing
carbs to lose faster. My goal weight is between 145 pounds (my preference) - 160 pounds (my docs preference). So to reach goal I need to lose between 75-90 pounds. So no matter how you look at it I am at least half way to goal!! YEAH!! I strongly encourage anyone who is battling morbid obesity to consider this surgery, it is the best thing I have ever done for myself and my family!

Jan 2002 Update:
As of 1/9/02 I weigh 203#. That is a loss of 121# since March 22, 2001. I am comfortably wearing size 16's and XL's from the regular womens department. I have approx 53# to lose to reach my personal goal. I registered for my first half-marathon (
www.rnrhalf.com) yesterday and my husband (also a DS post op) is walking it with me!! I can not begin to convey how much different our lives are now so just suffice to say I have a smile that won't go away most days and a new sense of joy in everything I do.

April 2002 Update:
Total weight loss to date 135#. I wear a size 14 and weigh 189#. I am thrilled with my progress so far. The weight loss has slowed dramatically, but so has my exercise so I can not complain. We are still planning to participate (and complete!) the half marathon in September, but have also booked trips for deep sea fishing, camping, etc for all summer! Life is fantastic!!

June 2002 Update:
Well, the exercise hasn't increased, and neither has the rate of the weight loss. (lol) Life is changing at an amazing rate right now and it seems all I can do to keep up with it all! We did go deep sea fishing, which was fabulous, but cancelled our other trips and the marathon due to buying a new house! It is being totally renovated and we move in this weekend- so that has kept me more than occupied. We are still going to Disney and are already planning another deep sea fishing trip for late summer so all is not lost. We also went to six flags last weekend, which was a blast! I easily fit on all of the rides and didn't have to give a second thought to my weight. What a change! I can't stress how wonderful my life is now without all of the excess weight- and I am stunned at the sheer amount of energy I have and stuff I am able to effortlessly accomplish every day!

Current weight: 173
Total lost: 151#
BMI: 26

Well my weight loss has started again! I had the anchor abdominoplasty done 5/6/03. Five pounds of tissue/skin was removed, but to date I have lost 20#! I am hoping to settle in the 150's. I am extremely pleased with the results of the abdominoplasty and although extremely painful would recommend it to anyone!
