Laura' s Incision

March 22, 1999 (19 days post-op): My incision from “open” surgery. The vertical, midline incision was closed. The horizontal retaining sutures kept the weight of my abdomen from pulling the midline incison apart. The retaining sutures were made of a heavy, thick material that was like a thin wire. The small red spot at left is where the Blake drain was located -- this was the gallbladder drain, which was removed before I left the hospital. At right is the feeding tube (J-tube), which Dr. Anthone left in until my first post-op examination. It is sometimes left in longer for patients who have trouble with eating.

March 24, 1999: This picture was taken after the stitches and J-tube were removed.
