by Barbi:

I was "heavy" from the age of two, was overweight, and then obese by the time I graduated from high school, and by the time I hit my late 20's I was in the morbidly obese category, mid 30's, super morbidly obese.

Like most everyone else I'd tried numerous diets, and they worked while I was on them, but the weight always came back. In my early 30's I gave up on dieting, and by mid 30's I was losing my mobility. I knew it was only going to get worse.

I'd heard many horror stories about "stomach stapling" but when your mobility starts to go you are ready to investigate a little further. I went to WLS sites and found so many people who were happy, and whose lives were changed because of WLS. I did a great deal of reasearch and decided the DS was right for me.

For me, the surgery was the easy part, it was the first two months of recovery that were hard! I had a great deal of nausea, I didn't know what to eat, I was never hungry, I had difficulty taking the supplements, and my metabolism was in the basement! I felt very weak and began to think I'd made a big mistake, something that I've found is not uncommon following this surgery.

But two months out everything turned around completely. I wanted to eat, I wasn't nauseated, taking the supplements was easy, and I felt GREAT. Since then it's been wonderful, although not without it's challenges.
