Nationwide Mattress guys says the GS 900 is normally $2699 with him, but someone on Yahoo! is selling it for $2099 so he's matching the price -- it's a little better than the Celesta Premium (better warranty and better topping), but cheaper because of the price match.
I think we're gonna do that one -- it's over $1500 cheaper than at the bricks-and-mortar place, including tax and delivery, and it is more substantial in construction than the Sleep Number bed. Plus it has a smaller airbag -- 3.5" instead of 6" and the airbag goes all the way to the edge -- it relies mostly on foam for supporting structure, the smaller airbag for adjusting firmness, and has a lush pillowtop with viscoelastic foam that cushions the back and (on the side) shoulders -- it felt pretty damned good laying on it in the store. (I feel a little bad about using the local b&m store to try it out and then buy from an online shop, but that hey, that's how business works these days -- and the online site has stunningly good Epinions posted.) OK, now to slide into the new 1200 threadcount sheets on the pathetic-looking 4" thick old Temperpedic mattress -- I think I'm going to go "au naturale" tonight to get the full benefit .Nighters all! |

Diana,
I have a Sleep Number Bed (7000) and have had it for 2 years. My husband and I have had no problems at all with it, and love it so much that we say it would have been worth $10,000 instead of $3000! Probably what I like most is that I can adjust it for my needs----make the mattress firmer or softer as my back and muscle aches/pains require. I truly believe that it was because of my bed that I could lie flat as soon as I got home from the hospital after my DS. Anyway, you've probably ordered your bed by now, and I wish you good luck with it. I hope you like it as much as I like mine! |

Yes, we did order it -- and in fact we ordered the GS 900 by Comfortaire, which is the probably the comparable model to the Sleep Number 7000, which was the one we were going to order after trying it in the Sleep Number store, but we were kind of off-put by the price, so we started looking around and found the Comfortaire site and went and tried in at a b&m store:
http://www.comfortaire.com/mattress.asp?ID=9 This is also an air mattress bladder supported by foam, though with a somewhat different construction, and also with the luxe pillowtop -- similar to the 7000. But there is more foam and a smaller air bag in the Comfortaire, which we found a bit more comfortable. But the whole "what's the best mattress" thing is SO subjective! If anyone is interested in this type of mattress, the Epinion reviews for nationwidemattress.com, the online store from which we are purchasing the bed, are fabulous, and so far our interactions with the owner of the site have been great. We ordered the bed yesterday, and he gave us a price ($2099, with free delivery, tax-free and with 2 pillows and a set of sheets thrown in) that was about $1800 less (!!) than the bricks-and-mortar store ($3449, not including tax and delivery), and about $600 less than he normally offers it, because he was matching someone who was undercutting him on Yahoo. I will follow up when the bed shows up and let you know how well the transaction went. This includes a 10 year full warranty and a second 10 years prorated warranty. I have high hopes -- I have been having the worst time trying to sleep for the last week, and twice including last night barely managed 2 hours of sleep -- I called in sick today. It felt like I could fall asleep on the bed at the store, so maybe it will work at home too ... (we need a fingers crossed emoticon). |

Sweet dreams!
I love good sheets too. I will never go back to the cheap ones. I used to have scads of sheets. Now I have 2 or 3 really good sets. I have had a lot of luck buying them reasonably on Amazon. I just wait till they hit clearance. |

I've been following this thread with great interest; we've had our mattress and boxspring for more than 15 years, through most of which I was bordering on SMO (hard on beds, don'tcha know?).
I, too, have recently (within the past year) become a sheet snob. If it's less than 600 thread count, and isn't Pima or Egyptian cotton, fugeddaboudit! Lol. |

I don't understand why or how good sheets would make a difference? Heck, I've never even seen good sheets! lol Do they sell them at Wal-Mart? I am very interested though! Maybe I shall try to find some.
I, too am going to be buying a brand new bed very very soon. It's kind of a reward to myself for losing so much weight. I would LOVE to be able to get a Tempurpedic bed, but I'm not looking to spend any huge amount of money. http://www.originalmattress.com/prod...orthopedic.asp That's what I'm gonna get. Just an old fashioned box spring with a mattress. Hopefully no more than 500-800 dollars. I want the one that says it's the "Orthopedic Premier Super Pillow Top". Oy! How comfy it looks! And all for ME. (This will be my first brand new bed that I buy all for myself, with my own money... NOT a hand-me-down!) Eeep! I'm so excited. =) I want to save up the money first though, and buy it all with cash. So it will probably be in Feburary or March. |

Amanda, good sheets make a world of difference! The higher the thread count is, the closer together the threads are, creating a smoother, silkier, more substantial feel. They're also economical (though they might seem hideously expensive) because they last for years. I have one set of 600 thread count sheets that belonged to my mother, and she died 18 years ago!
So, here's the way I look at it: I can buy a set of cheap sheets for $30.00 and replace them every five years. Cost over 20 years time: $120.00. Or, I can buy a set of good sheets for $100.00 (shop for sales) and they'll wear for 20 years. Cost over 20 years: $100.00, plus they feel so much better along the way! |

It finally came yesterday (Comfortaire GS 900). It is REALLY tall compared to our old mattress, and I got on it to watch TV last night, fiddled with the settings (I'm a 40 for now) and it was REALLY comfortable. But I had a horrible night last night -- tossing and turning and waking up repeatedly. I don't know if it was because of the bed -- I've been fighting off a cold for a couple of weeks and my head kept getting stuffed up, and I was too hot most of the night -- though it didn't feel like it was coming from the mattress like the Temperpedic issues -- perhaps it was coming from my menopausal self? I am reserving judgment for now, because I believe it will be great as soon as I figure out the other issues. I was hoping for one of those miracle "the first night I slept like a baby" responses.

Isn't the depth of these new mattresses something? I had to replace a lot of my tired, but still good sheets when we got our matress. Again, I can't emphasize enough what a difference getting a sheepskin matress cover has made in our sleep. I sleep very hot and the wool under the sheet seems to - oddly enough - wick away the moisture or trap enough air so that I seldom wake up sweaty.
I hope you get your good night's sleep soon. |

We bought our first NEW bed about a year ago. We got a Costco floor model (king, maybe cal king but i can't really figure it out) for $450. About 6 months ago they had Tempurpedic toppers and I picked up a 2 inch topper for $75. I also am a sheet snob now, but I only buy them at this same local store. My bed is now my sanctuary and I don't think I would change a thing. Maybe upgrade to a 4 inch topper but I can't keep the sheets on my bed already.
