Default Iron & Calcium taken together?

Can Iron & Calcium be taken at the same time?

I am taking these types:

Iron (elemental) Ferrous gluconate 10mg
Calcium (as citrate) 667
Iron (as glycinate) 87 mg

Should I try to separate these? Or should these be okay when taken together?

Thanks!

I have always been told by my doc for best absorption not to take iron and calcium at the same time.

Is 2 hours enough time? I don't take my liquid iron anymore since I am taking calcium 3 times a day now and never know when to get the iron in. OB is checking into the infusion. Also some posters have said preferrin can be taken with calcium supposedly.

I think 2 hours is minimum. It is probably not "ideal", but that's sometimes what I have to do in order to get all my vitamins in before bed that day.

Darn it! You just reminded me to get up off my bum and take my iron. I have been lax with it today. I am trying to take 4 doses per day from now on. But once I take this dose, it will only be 2 for today.

Oh well. Tomorrow is another day. At least today I did good with my water and protein intake! (Being pregnant sure feels like being a new post-op sometimes! lol)

It is my understanding that calcium citrate absorption is not hindered by the presence of iron. Other forms of calcium are not as effective with iron, but citrate (our preferred form) should be OK.

Thanks Melanie! That's what I thought. And I'm glad too, because I have been taking my iron & calcium citrate together for years now... I was just extra-curious about it now that I am pregnant; I want all the calcium that's in my bones to stay there!
