  • Pistachios...

OK, I have become somewhat addicted to pistachios as of late... I am sort of grazing on them most of the day long.. though that makes it so I eat my normal high protein meals and less crappy for me low protein snacks or things...

    how bad is this?? eep.

I just googled pistachios and the nutritional information is really good - 1 oz has 7 grams of carbs but 3 grams of dietary fiber (excellent) and 7 grams of protein (also excellent). IMHO nuts are probably the best source of protein snacking for DSers on the go. My fave are cashews and Trader Joe's sells a big bag of individual servings of cashews. I keep several in my purse at all times. Its not as economical to buy it this way but its incredibly convenient.

FYI while we're talking about nuts. I have been making cashew "milk" and it is delicious. You soak raw cashews overnight, then put them in the blender with water, some agave syrup, and a little cinnamon if you want. Blend thoroughly for a long time, then strain through a fine strainer (use cheesecloth if you want). It's non-dairy, with protein in it...

Don't even look at the calories, Pandora. They don't matter!

Just watch the sugar count (and pistachios only have 2g per half cup serving) and also watch the carbs (but pistachios only have about 7-8g per half cup serving)

They do have yummy fat, and yummy (good for you too!) protein and of course, my best friend, dietary fiber!

I haven't counted a calorie since my DS surgery over 4 years ago. (But I know I consume well over 2,500 per day probably, due to all the fat and protein that I eat)

I'm not underweight.. I am of normal weight.. I wear a size 12 (but that is mostly due to excess tissue). But I do have a 50cm common channel.. Though I have never, ever, watched my carbs. Eep

way back at some point I did start drinking soda for the empty calories, because I was losing too much weight... but I am not underweight.. I am under my GOAL. But my BMI is normal.

I meant under goal. Witha 50cm CC and you're under goal...you do not need to watch your carbs very much. That may change with time.

                    thanks!

I guess that explains why I have never really had to watch my carbs too much.. and why I don't gain weight (it was HARD for me to regain back to 165)

I became SOOOOO addicted to pistachios it wasn't even funny. Loved them! Still love them.

What I've found in the last 6 months-year is that I'm much more sensitive to salt now and I have to be very mindful of it. Which sucks because I'm the type who would salt roasted salt chunks if such a thing existed. But now I've found that if I eat salty food, I bloat painfully.

Strangely, the bloat is relative to the kind of salt. The worst offenders are kosher and sea salt. Which makes sense because they are my favorites.

I fell so in love with pistachios but am mindful of whether they are salted.

Of course in light of my recent issues, I have to swear off nuts and popcorn for a while until my internal issues heal up a bit more. Gentle gentle gentle.
