7.5 Years Post-op and Doing Great!

It doesn't seem real to me that it has been over 7 years since I had an open DS with Dr. Keshishian. I was looking back at some old records and realized that I weigh EXACTLY what I did over 3 years ago. That is amazing to me. My weight is very stable with just a tad bit of effort on my part. Basically if the scales start to move up I cut back on the simple carbs and out right sugar. Note I didn't say I eliminated them...Just cut back, lol, a gals gotta have 'some' sweets.
I follow the basic rules to this day.
*Religiously I Take my Calcium and other supplements.
*Do my yearly labs in a timely manner
*Do my yearly follow up appointment with my surgeon
*Remain active in my surgeons support meetings
*Protein first getting in no less than 100 grams
*Limit (but not eliminate) Simple carbs and sugars
If I was going to find fault right now in myself it would be that I should get back to exercising. More for fitness/health reasons. I basically got out of the habit because life kept getting in the way. Hopefully that will be changing in a couple months and I will run out of excuses!
So...bottom line...I'm healthy, happy, feel younger and more active than I did 10 years ago. I'm grateful.

So excited!I plan to use Dr. K for my open DS revision. I am very excited to read of your journey and how well it is going. So you continue seeing Dr. K for followup or do you go closer to home?. I am 3 hour drive and after the first year hope to get followup care in my own back yard.

Yep, I still go to Dr. K for yearly follow-up appointments. I only live about 40 min. from his Delano office, so it really isn't a big deal. However, I think if it was just a matter of a long 3 hour drive I'd still make the commitment to go to Dr. K once a year. If I had to get on a Plane, I'd probably try to use a Primary care physician and email/fax/phone communication for labs with Dr. K. Being a member of the yahoo group ds_friends_keshishian is a way for those who can't make the monthly meeting to stay in contact with what's going on...plus utilizing the www.dssurgery.com website for newsletters and such can be helpful. I'm not sure if you are North or South of Dr. K's Delano office but he is starting to do surgery/support meetings in Glendale,CA. Best of luck on your DS journey and feel free to contact me anytime.
